Safety and break-in delay

Security window film

A clear or tinted film bonded to the glass so a smashed pane stays in the frame. Fitted on homes, shops and offices across Kent and Surrey. Prices from £50/m², labour and materials included.

Security window film on street-facing glass

Security window film is a polyester sheet anchored to the pane. When the glass breaks, the film holds the pieces together instead of letting them fall out of the frame. That is useful in two different situations: someone trying to get in quickly, and an accident where people are standing near the glass.

It is a delay and a safety layer, not a substitute for locks, alarms or laminated glass specified for a high-security building. For a house on a quiet road, or a shop that is empty after closing, that delay is often the point. An opportunist who expected the glass to drop out meets a pane that is still occupying the opening.

Clear grades leave the look of the window almost unchanged, which matters on a period frontage or a retail display. We can also specify a film that adds solar control if the same pane overheats, and we will say on the survey when one film cannot do both jobs well.

What we usually film first

Ground-floor windows and patio doors that are out of sight of the road come first, then any glazed door with a panel large enough to reach through. On commercial sites it is the shopfront, the side return, and meeting rooms with glass that people walk into. Safety film is also specified where a pane is low enough that a fall or a collision would send shards into the room.

The install is done on site. We measure, clean, and fit the film to the inside face in almost every case, because interior film is protected from weather and is the finish covered by the supplier warranty. Exterior fitting is only used where we cannot reach the inside, and we will explain that before you book.

Quotes are fixed after a look at the glass, either from photos or a visit. A standard home is usually finished in a day. You can compare shades in the Film Finder or read the safety and security film page for the product details. Town coverage, including Medway and Maidstone, is listed on areas we cover.

Common questions

Does security film stop a window being broken?

It does not make glass unbreakable. A heavy impact can still crack the pane. The film holds the fragments together so the opening is much harder to climb through, which is what deters a quick break-in and what protects people from falling shards.

Can it be almost clear?

Yes. Safety and security grades are available in a clear finish, so a street-facing window does not have to look tinted. If you also want heat or privacy control, we can talk through a film that does both, or a combination across different panes.

Which windows are worth doing first?

Ground-floor panes that are hidden from the street, rear patio doors, and any shopfront or office that is empty overnight. We mark those up on the free survey rather than filming every pane by default.

If the problem is heat rather than impact, start with solar control window film. Every specialism is also summarised on the services page.
